      <image:title>Bookshelf - Books that Shape My Work</image:title>
<image:caption>In reality, I feel that all books we read influence us professionally. Our professional and our personal selves pretzel together. To neatly separate one from the other is disingenuous. But for the sake of keeping things simple, I’ve put together a short list of books that have most directly influenced how I work. For anyone who might consider working with me, the intent is to give you a glimpse into my motivations and overall make-up. At the very least, I hope I might turn you onto a book or two you may not have read otherwise. Conclude preamble. In no particular order, I present to you, Books that Shape My Work.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bookshelf - Nudge - By Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein</image:title>
<image:caption>For my money, no other book is as synonomous with the field of behavioral psychology as is Nudge - at least not any that are non-academic and widely published. It was referenced often during a course I recently took on behavioral psychology through the University of Toronto. And I had first come to the book years before, when I had been contemplating the topic of this book: How can people be encouraged to do good things?</image:caption>

<image:title>Bookshelf - The Paradox of Choice - By Barry Schwartz</image:title>
<image:caption>Perhaps an unusual choice for a professional read, Schwartz’s Paradox of Choice has fingerprints all over my work. The book was recommended to when while I was on Jellyvision’s sales team. That’s because its thesis was core to how Jellyvision sees the world. And that is, in simplified terms, that making important decisions is stressful. It’s especially hazardous when those decisions require expertise and the decision-makers lack it.</image:caption>

<image:title>Bookshelf - Start with Why - By Simon Sinek An obvious classic but a goodie.</image:title>
<image:caption>In fact, like so many people, I was turned onto the “Start with Why" concept through Sinek’s ultra-popular TedTalk. The idea that people, however you might label them (customers, employees, etc) are loyal to companies less because of what they do, and instead because of why they do what they do. <image:title>Bookshelf - Cross-Cultural Design - By Senongo Akpem</image:title>
<image:caption>Google’s UX Design courses taught me something critically important about both design and myself: That, as an individual, my perspective is limited and influenced by implicit bias. In these courses, Google stresses the concept of “The Next Billion Users,” which is the understanding that billions of people in this world are not yet internet users, and the prediction that many of them soon will be. For a long list of reasons having to do with a country’s financial wealth, infrastructure, geopolitical circumstances, and so on, many of these next billion users will come from Non-Western countries.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Design - Art Gallery Scavenger Hunt - Mockups</image:title>
<image:caption>The earlier designs maintained the simplicity of the treasure hunt game, where users are given clues and allowed to make a guess. After the usability study, I learned that there was an opportunity to make the design simpler by consolidating options in a hamburger menu, removing a “hint” option, the text-based lesson, and by making the call-to-action (“guess” button) stand out.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Design - Art Gallery Scavenger Hunt - Mockups</image:title>
<image:caption>The second usability study revealed confusion around “favoriting” art work in a collection and navigating within a collection. Thus, my next iteration simplifies this by entering all acquired paintings in the user’s collection with elegant “card-flipping” navigation.</image:caption>
